dog walkers

Mission Dog offers trainings and educational resources for Dog Walkers. Why? Well, because we believe the more doggie skills that walkers have, the more likely they are to be quick on their feet, avoid injuries and keep the dogs in their care safe and relaxed. Our programs can help you expand your services and give walkers tools to increase the quality of life for the dogs in their care (and owners will love you for it!).

What are the benefits of our programs?

  • Understanding Body Language
  • Handling for dogs that are fearful, aloof or aggressive
  • Humane equipment to help with walks
  • Walking reactive dogs
  • Enrichment on walks and in the house
  • Reinforcing good manners and increasing your bottom line
  • Constructing play groups and expanding your services

Workshops

Workshops are presented as one or two day events. We can accommodate 2-3 topics per day, depending on the topic. We’re happy to customize our workshops to meet your needs. So, if there is something that we don’t offer, but you’d like us to present on, let us know! Please scroll through the topics below.

Dog Body Language and Handling
There you are, a stranger in a dog’s home and you have to handle him, leash him up and hope that he’s tolerant of it all. Whew! It can be tricky. Learn how to identify body language, stress signals and calming signals that will keep you safe, give you information about when a dog isn’t comfortable and how to use your body language to calm a dog.

Reactive Dogs
Good old dogs that bark and lunge on leash. They are more common then ever, and many times, these dogs are your clients. Did you know that the more a dog practices this behavior, the more likely it is to continue? OK, OK, so you’re not a dog trainer, or are you? Learn how to decrease this behavior while you walk these dogs, humane equipment that can help you not get jerked around. Much to the delight of your client, you’re helping them maintain their training work and decreasing the stress levels and arousal for the dog.

Off Leash Play Groups
Learn how to read body language, prevent fights and to keep the dogs safe. Learn what every dog walker needs to train for off leash reliability and understanding red flags that a dog may not be appropriate within a particular play group or in an off leash setting. We’ll discuss dog-dog resource guarding, prey drive and more.
